Having just read that Cherylgate has ended , this was about a spat between Lily Allen and Cheryl tweedy from Girls Aloud, I was wondering what *gate* is in Spanish in relation to a scandal. I tend to christen all the work politics scandals a gate such as kettlegate and poogate.

Now it seems that Watergate was the first and truly one of the last political scandals that was a gate, and the word has become part of celebrity linguistics but it would be interesting to know.

I remember hearing once that Portillo means littlegate in Catalan, so maybe a small scandal could be called a Portillo or a Michael.
