Places you´ve gotta go (well at somestage anyroad) 1

Guadalajara is about a 20 minute drive from Alcala de Henares and probably an hour from Madrid.

If you want a very Spanish night out then Guadalajara is a good place to go although the nearest reasonable discoteca are in Alcala (reasonable !!! depends on taste), but in the fiestas the nights out are crazy, everyone is in fancy dress (unlike Alcala where only a few seem to be, it is getting a tiny bit more suburbian everyday)and the drink is cheaper than Madrid. The music is varied but you must like Spanish music to enjoy it apart form the rare twenty minute sets where there is a bit of dance.
There are a few nice restaurants.
However I recently went during the day and was suprized how tranquilito it is. there is a nice church (see above9 which is next to a park which has a duck pond in something I haven´t really seen in Spain.

There are a few nice bars and there seemed to be a few good restaurants to visit during the day (well they seemed full and the people were smiling)

I think Guadalajara is worth a visit for typical inland Spain fiestas epecially if you like fancy dress, and also a nice sunday day out for a bit of site seeing and relaxing. I would say May or early June just to laze in the park ( a few spliffs would be an asset)

You can catch the train from Madrid Atocha and Chamartin about once every half hour

It always catches up in the end.

Those years of bad diet, smoking and drinking have finally caught up. I have to go on low fat diet and have been told absolutely no alcohol. I promise I am not an alchy although my Madrid Helathcards which my doctor printed out for me bare remarkedly close resemblance to those which an alcoholic would have.

Anyway I am now being introduced to the new world of low fat cooking, and I am really enjoying it (at the moment)

Made a low fat pisto sauce yesterday and even R said that it tasted full fat. I am gong to put a few of the recipies online hopefully with pictures. they are lower fat not low fat and I have had to training in nutrician so they could actually be all wrong.

The pisto is easy

a aubergine cubed, a courgette cubed, an onion chopped , I always use loads of Garlic but I reckon at least a quater of a whole clove. A red pepper chopped and cubed. I fried these in a little bit of olive oil. Remember that olive oil is still oil. I also added a bit of salt and pepper and the a couple of tea spoons of sugar (although in the past I have used saccarin and it tasted fine). I then added a tin of the tomatoe triturado, let in cook for a bit and then added chunks of chicken without skin. then I added a glass of water. I let it cook on a very low heat for over an hour.

There was enough for three and I worked it out that it was about 5 grams of fat at the most which is pretty low fatastic.

things i have learnt today

I have a sprained ankle so have spent the last two days on the sofa. It is funny what you can learn:

The British were awful to the Zulus
Tea is probably the best drink in the world
dont stand on a swollen foot
Pantoja is still going strong in Valencia
I still really miss valencia I used to live in front of the Palau de Musica and I have had to watch it continuously on TV
Nova actually spends a lot of the day sleeping
Jackie Mason´s new york jewish accent must be a at least a little put on
diario de patricia is not as good as trisha although she does have a better class of guest ( but only just)

Talking about politics

Take a look at this.

Lies dammed lies and lie machines

Why is it that all TV programmes in Spain seem to put all their guests on lie detector machines. Its unreal. There was even someone the other day using one to deny that he had had sexual relations with Pantoja. They should just inject these people with the truth drug they had on James Bond, it would be much quicker.

Talking about liars

I really like this picture.
